About the course
This training program offers a structured and in-depth introduction to the field of ceramic glazing. Participants are introduced to the fundamental glaze materials, their properties, and the scientific principles underlying glaze formulation. Through an integrated approach combining theoretical instruction, demonstrations, and hands-on studio practice, participants develop precise skills in measuring, mixing, and preparing glaze applications.
The program also emphasizes systematic methods of glaze testing, analysis, and problem-solving, enabling participants to evaluate results confidently and make informed adjustments to glaze formulas.
Outcomes
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
- Understand the principles of ceramic glaze chemistry, including primary raw materials and their roles: fluxes, glass formers, and stabilizers and their influence on the final results.
- Apply glaze preparation procedures practically and precisely, including measuring, mixing, sieving, applying, and firing ceramic glazes using the appropriate tools and techniques.
- Analyze glaze behavior under various variables such as temperature, firing atmosphere, and material selection—and evaluate their impact on the ceramic surface.
- Execute systematic glaze testing and interpret the results, demonstrating the ability to modify and optimize formulas based on critical analysis and informed experimentation.
Entry Requirements
- Successful completion of the "Traditional Pottery Arts" programs offered by Wrth, or completion of similar accredited programs in the field of pottery from leading institutions (supporting documentation must be attached).
- Attachment of a portfolio or certificates from previous programs in the field of pottery and ceramics.
