About this course
The Traditional Mud Brick (Adobe) Making Course is designed as a practical training introduction to one of the fundamental crafts associated with earthen construction in traditional architecture in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The program focuses on familiarizing trainees with the core concepts of adobe production, as well as its historical and functional significance in shaping local built environments, in addition to providing hands-on training in traditional manufacturing processes.
Throughout the course, trainees are introduced to the components of adobe material, methods for preparing appropriate mixtures, and the proper preparation and use of brick molds. They also engage in the manual forming stages involved in producing traditional mud bricks. The program further emphasizes key practical aspects such as precision, consistency, and dimensional control, reflecting the inherited craftsmanship practices associated with this craft.
Outcomes
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
- Understand the general concept of the "Earth" element in traditional architecture and its role in utilizing Adobe as a local building material.
- Identify the core components and properties of Adobe materials, as well as the factors influencing the quality of traditional bricks.
- Apply the steps for preparing and correctly using Adobe molds to produce traditional bricks that meet required specifications.
- Produce a set of traditional Adobe bricks through practical application while adhering to safe working practices.
