About the course

The craft of making As-Subhah is an ancient traditional art that reflects refined taste and a close connection to the cultural heritage of Saudi Arabia. This craft represents a blend of manual skill and extreme precision, relying on techniques for shaping natural and luxury materials. It involves using specialized tools for turning and carving beads, leading up to the "stringing" and manual tying stage, which gives As-Subhah its harmonious structure and unique aesthetic value.

In this course, trainees will explore the historical background of this craft and its most famous centers within the Kingdom. The journey begins with selecting raw materials and essential tools, moving through artistic shaping and turning methods, and concluding with mastering traditional assembly and tying techniques (Al-Damm). This process results in artistic pieces that bridge authentic identity with a spirit of contemporary innovation.
 

Outcomes

By the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Identify the most famous regions in the Kingdom renowned for the manual craft of As-Subhah.
  • Recognize the essential tools and raw materials used in traditional Subhah manufacturing.
  • Shape, tie, and assemble As-Subhah according to traditional methods.
