About this course

The quality of traditional products is a fundamental pillar for preserving cultural identity and enhancing the economic value of handicraft industries. The Institute seeks to develop the skills of artisans to ensure the production of traditional crafts characterized by both functional and aesthetic quality, meeting market demands and fulfilling customer expectations.

This program aims to introduce trainees to quality concepts and manufacturing standards within traditional crafts, focusing on integrating traditional techniques and methods to produce high-quality heritage products. It also outlines the steps for product improvement and evaluation, as well as identifying market standards and customer requirements to ensure the competitiveness of these products.

Outcomes

By the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • List local and international quality standards and explain how to apply them in product manufacturing.
  • Explain customer engagement strategies and identify the role of each in developing products and services.
  • Summarize the principles of Human-Centered Design (HCD) and how to apply them in the arts.
  • Evaluate the impact of quality on customer satisfaction using appropriate assessment tools.
  • Design three products that comply with local or international quality standards.
  • Apply Kaizen practices and evaluate their impact on enhancing artisanal skills and continuous improvement.
  • Commit to resource preservation by adopting quality systems that promote sustainability and efficiency.
  • Adopt professional values for the preservation of materials and tools, demonstrating an awareness of the importance of quality systems in achieving operational efficiency.

Entry requirements

  • This course is open to all community members aged 18 years and above, who have a high school diploma or higher accreditation.
  • It is preferred that the trainee is a practicing artisan in traditional crafts to effectively apply the concepts practically during the program.
