About the course
Plaster carving is one of the most prominent artisanal arts associated with traditional architecture in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, adding a unique aesthetic and geometric dimension to facades and interior walls. This craft relies on manual carving and ornamentation skills, using natural materials and specialized engraving tools to transform solid surfaces into artistic canvases vibrant with traditional decorative motifs.
In this course, trainees will explore the roots of this art and its aesthetic characteristics. The journey begins with preparing raw materials and identifying tools, moving through carving techniques and mastering depth and angles, and concluding with the execution of heritage patterns and engravings that reflect the ancient architectural identity of the Kingdom’s regions in its most authentic style.
Outcomes
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
- Recognize the art of plaster carving and its significance in the traditional architecture of the Kingdom.
- Identify the tools and raw materials used in preparing plaster and executing traditional engravings.
