About this course
Wood Carving and Engraving is an introductory training course that provides participants with a foundational understanding of the craft from both historical and artistic perspectives. The course introduces the essential tools and fundamental wood carving and engraving techniques before guiding participants through hands-on practice to sketch, design, and create a simple wooden piece.
The course is designed for individuals interested in traditional visual arts and handicrafts, including beginners and those seeking to develop practical skills through an intensive learning experience.
Outcomes
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
- Understand the origins and cultural significance of the wood carving and engraving craft.
- Identify the main types of traditional motifs (geometric and floral) and the principles of arranging them on wooden surfaces.
- Utilize traditional tools and techniques, including: carving, engraving, coloring, wood burning (pyrograhy), and nail ornamentation, efficiently on tamarisk wood.
- Apply wood carving and engraving techniques to execute precise straight lines and rounded forms.
Entry requirements
- This course is open to all community members aged 18 years and above, who have a high school diploma or higher accreditation.
