About this course
Saudi Arabia boasts a rich and diverse geological environment, where natural stones have long served as a source of inspiration for traditional arts. Drawing from this deep-rooted heritage, this program offers a unique journey that combines knowledge and practice in the art of stone carving. The course blends historical context with creative expression, highlighting the role of this craft in reviving cultural heritage and shaping it with a contemporary spirit.
This course introduces participants to the geological characteristics of stones and their role in national heritage. They will be equipped with the essential knowledge and skills of traditional carving techniques, focusing on enabling them to safely and professionally use the tools and equipment specific to stone art.
Outcomes
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
- Explain the geological, archaeological, and historical sequence of early eras and connect it to the art of stonework.
- Apply six fundamental techniques, including excavation, stippling, linear engraving, bas-relief, grooving, and diverse ornamentation.
- Use stone art tools, materials, and equipment safely and effectively.
- Execute techniques on flat slabs and a final three-dimensional product.
- Integrate theoretical knowledge with practical application to highlight the heritage value of stones in contemporary contexts.
Entry requirements
- This course is open to all community members aged 18 years and above, who have a high school diploma or higher accreditation.
