About the course
Traditional plaster arts are a form of decorative and architectural art used in building and finishing. Plaster is commonly used in decorating walls, ceilings, and facades due to its ease of shaping and strong durability.
The program introduces youth to plaster material and its basic properties, and how it can be used in simple and safe artistic and decorative applications. It also includes hands-on activities such as preparing plaster, casting it into molds, and creating traditional patterns using beginner-friendly manual tools.
Outcomes
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
- Identify the art of traditional gypsum (plaster) and its significance in architecture and decoration.
- Differentiate in a simplified manner between the primary types of gypsum and their basic uses.
- Understand the step-by-step process of preparing a gypsum mixture clearly.
- Utilize fundamental tools to cast gypsum into molds.
- Execute a simple gypsum panel featuring traditional engravings and motifs.
