About this course
This program introduces trainees to the art of marquetry as one of the applied arts based on decorating wooden surfaces using pieces of wood veneer with diverse colors and patterns to create distinctive decorative and geometric compositions.
Designed to guide participants through a progressive learning journey that begins with an introduction to the history, origins, and development of the craft. Trainees will explore different types of wood and wood veneers, their properties and applications, as well as the fundamentals of design, geometric drawing, and the selection of appropriate colors and compositions. The program also covers the practical aspects of cutting, assembling, and fixing veneers, in addition to the final installation and finishing processes, enabling participants to produce a complete marquetry piece by the end of the training.
Outcomes
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
- Identify various types of wood and wood veneers, understanding their characteristics and application in marquetry art.
- Design decorative and geometric compositions utilizing key design principles and color theory.
- Apply cutting, assembly, and joining techniques for wood veneers using specialized tools and methods.
- Execute a complete marquetry artwork characterized by artisanal precision, high-quality finishing, and refined presentation.
Entry requirements
- This course is open to all community members aged 18 years and above, who have a high school diploma or higher accreditation.
- Applicants must submit a portfolio demonstrating work samples in woodworking or related traditional crafts.
