About this course
Oud incense burners are one of the oldest and most valued craft objects in the Kingdom, celebrated for their rich cultural and aesthetic significance. The craft of making oud burners represents a fusion of artistic creativity and technical skill, relying on the shaping of local woods, such as tamarisk, and using traditional tools alongside time-honored techniques.
Course participants will explore the fundamentals of designing and crafting incense burners, starting with material selection through to shaping and engraving techniques. They will learn the origins of incense burner craftsmanship, and produce their own pieces in line with the styles of various regions.
Outcomes
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
- Recognize the essential tools required for traditional incense burner craftsmanship.
- Master five or more key techniques for crafting traditional incense burners.
Entry requirements
- This course is open to all community members aged 18 years and above, who have a high school diploma or higher accreditation.
- preferable that participants have a basic understanding of carpentry or manual woodworking.
