About the course
Pottery is one of the oldest traditional crafts in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, deeply rooted in both urban and Bedouin lifestyles. Today, it continues to hold its value as an art that combines function, beauty, and sustainability. This craft carries a rich cultural legacy that reflects the community’s skill in working with natural materials and transforming them into useful objects with artistic value.
The program offers an integrated learning experience that combines theory and practice. Participants will explore the history of pottery in the Kingdom, learn methods of preparing and hand-kneading clay, and practice shaping techniques both by hand and on the traditional potter’s wheel. In addition, they will gain experience in surface finishing, polishing, and firing techniques.
Outcomes
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
- Understand the historical and traditional practices of pottery making in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
- Prepare clay and apply manual kneading steps according to traditional methods.
- Use hand-shaping and wheel-shaping techniques to create a variety of vessels and forms
- Apply finishing, firing, and polishing skills to produce high-quality pottery pieces
Entry requirements
- This course is open to all community members aged 18 years and above, who have a high school diploma or higher accreditation.
