About this course

Natural dye extraction is a rich traditional practice that reflects the deep connection between humans and nature while showcasing creativity inspired by natural elements. With the growing focus on sustainability and environmental awareness, natural dyes have become an important choice in many creative industries.

This program aims to revive the art of natural dye extraction and provide participants with knowledge about its sources and preparation methods, with an emphasis on the associated environmental and health aspects. Participants will learn how to extract natural dyes in various shades and combine them skillfully, understand color theories and their meanings, produce pigments from natural extracts, and explore methods of fixing them on different materials, in addition to applying advanced practical techniques in this field.
By the end of the program, participants will be able to complete a final project that highlights their acquired skills in natural dye extraction and its application in contemporary artistic contexts.
 

Outcomes 

By the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Extract colors with varying degrees (tints and shades) and blend them proficiently.
  • Explain different color theories and their symbolic meanings (connotations).
  • Produce pigment from the natural extract.
  • Describe how to fix (set) the pigmented material.
  • Apply practical techniques for natural color extraction.

Entry requirements

  • This course is open to all community members aged 18 years and above, who have a high school diploma or higher accreditation.
