About the course
This course provides an introduction to traditional ornamental arts, exploring the historical roots of Islamic ornamentation and its evolution throughout the ages, with a specific focus on decorative motifs inspired by Historic Jeddah.
The course integrates theoretical knowledge with practical application by training participants to draw geometric and floral decorative units. It covers the necessary tools and materials, leading up to the execution of a complete decorative design that can be utilized in contemporary art and design contexts.
Outcomes
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
- Explain the roots of traditional ornamentation, its various types, and its primary elements.
- Sketch geometric and floral decorative units using the appropriate tools.
- Apply a decorative motif inspired by the ornaments of Historic Jeddah and utilize it within a contemporary context.
