About the course 

Design and innovation in traditional crafts serve as a vital bridge connecting cultural heritage with modern market demands. By utilizing design thinking, handcrafted products can be reimagined to ensure their sustainability and contemporary relevance while preserving their authentic cultural identity.

This introductory training program aims to empower participants to rethink handcrafted products by analyzing their functional, cultural, and aesthetic values, alongside exploring their relationship with the modern user. The course heavily emphasizes a structured, practical approach. Participants will be introduced to the concepts and strategies of innovation, using circular design as a methodological framework. This framework guides the process of reimagining products through stages that begin with understanding and analysis and extend to generating initial ideas, utilizing short interactive exercises that enable trainees to apply these concepts directly.

Outcomes

By the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Identify the fundamental concepts and principles associated with design and innovation (such as creative thinking, sustainable innovation strategies, and circular design), and explain their applications in product development.
  • Utilize creative thinking skills to analyze design challenges and generate innovative ideas.
  • Utilize critical thinking skills to develop effective solutions that respond to user needs and the contemporary context.

Entry Requirements

  • This course is open to all community members aged 18 years and above, who possess a beginner or intermediate background in the crafts or design field.
