About this course
Jewelry making is considered one of the long-standing crafts in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, historically serving as a form of cultural expression that reflects social status, aesthetic values, and regional identity through distinctive motifs and symbolic ornamentation. Jewelry has not merely functioned as adornment, but as a cultural document embodying accumulated craftsmanship, technical knowledge, and generational expertise.
Throughout the program, participants are introduced to the fundamental principles of jewelry making, including cutting, metal forming, annealing, and soldering, alongside an exploration of traditional Saudi practices and their adaptation within contemporary design contexts. The course combines theoretical understanding with intensive hands-on practice in the workshop, emphasizing safe tool usage and the development of both technical and design competencies.
Outcomes
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
- Understand the historical and traditional practices of jewelry making in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
- Interpret the aesthetic and technical concepts associated with traditional jewelry and link them to a contemporary context.
- Design and execute a jewelry piece utilizing basic smithing techniques such as cutting, shaping, annealing, and soldering.
- Utilize key tools, materials, and equipment in a jewelry workshop safely and professionally.
