Program Overview

The Masters in Performance Arts programme is designed to develop critically engaged, intellectually curious, and creatively confident graduates who are able to explore, analyse, and shape performance practices through both theoretical and practice-based approaches. 

Grounded in performance theory, cultural analysis, and research methodologies, the programme enables students to engage deeply with traditional Saudi performing arts, while positioning these practices within a dynamic dialogue with contemporary global performance.

Program Objectives

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of advanced theories and concepts in performing arts, and apply them in analysis and interpretation.
  • Interpret cultural and historical contexts, and relate performing arts practices to contemporary developments.
  • Apply research methodologies, including practice-based research approaches.
  • Analyse performance works and produce critical interpretations based on structured methodological frameworks.
  • Develop integrated research or practice-based projects that combine theory and practice.

Admission Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Performing Arts, Theatre, History, Literature, Sociology, Media, Heritage, or a related field, with a minimum GPA of 3.5/5 (or 2.5/4), or a degree in another field with at least two years of relevant experience 
  • Submission of an updated CV 
  • Submission of a portfolio (if available) 
  • Successful completion of a personal interview 
  • Submission of two academic or professional recommendation letters 
  • Commitment to full-time study, with employer approval if applicable
