About the Competition
As part of the initiatives of the Year of Handicrafts 2025, the Royal Institute for Traditional Arts (WIRTH) is launching the Scientific Research Competition in Traditional Arts. The competition aims to support high-quality studies and research that shed light on this vital sector and enhance its presence in both cultural and academic spheres. It seeks to encourage researchers to produce reliable scientific content that contributes to the development and sustainability of traditional arts and crafts in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, while also linking them to sustainable development pathways and the cultural economy.
Competition Objectives
- Support scientific research in the field of traditional arts.
- Promote the sustainability and development of handicrafts in line with contemporary advancements.
- Encourage knowledge and innovation in artisanal arts.
- Enrich the national cultural content with credible scientific references.
Target Groups
- Academics and researchers in the fields of arts, culture, design, or history.
- Postgraduate students and independent researchers.
- Professionals working in museums, art centers, or related cultural institutions.

Eligibility Requirements
- The applicant must hold a Master's or Ph.D. degree, or have a record of published research.
- Commitment to the specified application period.
- The research proposal must not be submitted to any other entity.
- If the proposal is accepted, the applicant is required to publish the research paper in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.
- Acceptance of all commitments outlined in the application form.
